We start with the first sun rays and cross a moraine and white foaming glacier water. The Topali hut, gleaming in the sunlight, gets smaller and smaller. After a short but steep ascent on a secured passage, the hut vanishes from our sight. The first protected Edelweiss flowers grow in this untouched mountain world, right next to the path. Soon, we encounter scree areas, though the path is perfectly laid out and comfortable to walk on.
A cold wind blows on the Wasenlücke, the cause is the glacier on the opposite side of the valley. The descent is very steep and the hiker slips on the fine scree. Massive ropes help immensely to go down. Two different routes lead down the hillside: the one marked with the blue ropes leads on the glacier, the one with the white ropes proceeds through the scree. Depending on the conditions, we can choose the easier one. |

Behind the small glacier lake we encounter, again, an alpine steppe landscape. Flowers blossom and the weed grows stronger between the moss-grown stones. Alongside the moraine on the left side of the valley we walk on comfortably smooth ground. The greensward bounces literally under the heavy shoes. We reach astonishingly quickly the Jungu; the summer freshness of the inhabitants of St. Niklaus. Because we can't pass the night in Jungu, the nice descent to St. Niklaus is the next step of the hike. Optionally we can use the railway. |
